Privacy Policy

The short version

NightSeam is designed to keep your data on your own device. Neither this website nor the web planner stores anything about you on a server. There is no account, no tracking, no analytics, no cookies beyond what your browser needs to run the page.

Web version (planner)

  • Local storage: your observing sites, rigs and custom targets are stored only in your browser's local data (IndexedDB / localStorage) on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Weather: when you load the weather panel, your active site's coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch a forecast. No other data is transmitted. Weather data © Open-Meteo.com.
  • Location: the "use my location" button uses your browser's geolocation API — it is only queried when you press the button, and the coordinates are stored locally like any other site.
  • Object images: example photos are either bundled with the page or fetched from Wikimedia Commons when you open an object's detail view.

Desktop application (Windows)

  • Local data: everything (catalog history, panoramas, imported FITS frames) lives in a data folder next to the application. Nothing is transmitted automatically.
  • Weather: like the web version, loading weather sends your active site's coordinates to Open-Meteo.
  • Object images: example images are fetched from Wikipedia / Wikimedia Commons on demand and cached locally; the app can be used fully offline without them.
  • Update check: once per start, the app compares its version against a version file on this website. It transmits nothing but the request itself (no personal data).

Hosting / infrastructure

The site is served via a hosting provider and a CDN, which process standard technical data (IP address, user agent, request log) to deliver the pages. We do not use this data for profiling, and we do not combine it with any other data sources.

Your rights

You are in control of the data on your device: delete the storage in your browser, or delete the data folder next to the desktop app, and all your data is gone. If you have questions, use the contact details from the Imprint.
